- Networking - Get to know and form
new and lasting friendships with other education students at Marian, in
Wisconsin, and across the USA
- Leadership Opportunities - Be
actively involved at the local, state, and national level by being an
officer or serving in committees. Leadership trainings are available
at the May and October Board meetings, the June Leadership Retreat, and
the WEAC Summer conference in July through the NEA and WEAC student
programs.
- Community Service/ Human Relations Hours
- Earn Human Relations hours required for licensing.
- Professional Development -
Membership to MSEA/StWEA also gives you FREE admission to the conferences
sponsored by NEA and WEAC. . There is a state conference in the fall
and three regional conferences in the spring. Our local chapter,
MSEA also offers professional development workshops (go to
Activities)
- Publications - Receive numerous
publication such as NEAToday -a monthly national newspaper,
published by NEA, OnWeac In Print - monthly state newspaper
published by WEAC, Student Educator - quarterly publication
published by Wisconsin's Student WEA, and Tomorrow's Teachers -
annual magazine.
- Legal Services - Get Liability
Insurance coverage ($1,000,000) to protect you while working with children
in your clinical practicuum and student teaching. An added bonus is
the free legal advice from our advisor.
- Materials and Resources - Avail
yourself of research papers and information available
through WEAC and NEA. Just ask your local and state officers.
- Apple Bucks - Earn valuable points
every time you participate in club activities and exchange them for
teaching tools you could use. Attend monthly meetings = 5 points;
attend convention, conferences and workshops = 25 points;
volunteer work for MSEA projects such as Kids Kingdom and Book Fairs = 5 points; write an article for the
MSEA
newsletter = 5 points; and bring a new member to the meetings = 5 points.
