The National Education Association is the largest and most influential group
for teachers. Founded in 1857, it is the nation's leading organization
committed to advancing the cause of public education and fulfilling the promise
of democracy. With its headquarters in Washington, D.C., NEA has 2.7 million
members who work at every level of education, from pre-school to university
graduate programs. NEA has affiliates in every state, as well as in more than
13,000 local communities across the United States.
As NEA affiliate, the Wisconsin Education Association Council represents the public policy, labor
and professional interests of its 96,000 members. WEAC is also a strong advocate for the 800,000 children in Wisconsin public schools.
A subdivision of WEAC, the
Student Wisconsin Education Association (Student WEA) exists to provide
students in teacher education programs with a comprehensive
understanding of the historical and current issues pertaining to public
education. Student WEA members gain a greater knowledge of the education
profession, grow individually and professionally and become better
prepared to actively participate within their careers. MSEA is an
affiliate of StWEA. |
